Our Appellate attorneys are essential to the criminal justice system and must possess strong analytical and researching skills. Attorneys are challenged daily to apply their legal knowledge to aspects of the law. As an Appellate attorney, you will continue to uphold the Agency's high ethical standards and commitment to public service.
Duties & Responsibilities
As an attorney within the Appellate Program, you will be primarily responsible for the proper prosecution of civil and criminal appeals, including necessary research, memoranda and brief preparation, and conducting oral arguments within the Second, Third, Fourth, or Fifth Judicial District Appellate Courts. Such work shall also include assistance to State’s Attorney’s Offices which includes oral or written opinions on specific cases and temporary assignment on an occasional basis to the trial courts in the counties.
Qualifications
Applicants must be licensed attorneys within Illinois and in good standing with the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission upon hire. Applicants must possess excellent legal research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to understand and present factual and legal issues clearly.
Salary & Benefits
The starting salary is set by a schedule in accordance to a collective bargaining agreement with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
